"The Ramadan Fast-a-Thon initiative extends some of the blessing of
Islam into the larger American community. Originated by the MSA of
Knoxville, Tennessee, it is precisely this kind of activity that
locates the Muslims of America as welcome contributors to the common
good. This is accomplished not by meek assimilation into a
materialistic culture, but by standing proudly and publicly for the
practice of our religion. It succeeds not by strident rejection of all
things Western, but by opening our arms in invitation to share in the
blessings of Islam. It strengthens our communities not by demands for
inclusion, but by extending our hands to give out from that which we
have been given. It is with gratitude to our Lord of Bounty and
Generosity that Dar al Islam acknowledges the creativity and efforts
of our youth in showing us the way forward, with enthusiasm that we
endorse their efforts, and with humility that we sponsor them." |

"The Fast-a-thon initiative is one of the rare ideas that touches many
facets of involvement, community awareness, Muslim motivation and
non-Muslim inclusion, what an excellent endeavor. We hope the idea
spreads from the MSAs to community masajid as well, insha Allah." |

"The Ramadan Fast-a-thon initiative is a unique endeavor which brings
communities together with one of the most basic pearls of Islam. It is
a much needed effort where Muslims and non-Muslims can join together
and extend to others what has been given to them by the Most Generous.
We pray that this effort extends throughout North America and we
support and encourage its continued growth and success." |

"The Fast-a-thon initiative is a brilliant new endeavor where the
blessings and miracles of Ramadan are shared with communities
throughout North America. It provides an opportunity to not only
encourage the merits of fasting but to also bridge together the Muslim
and non-Muslims communities. We pray for the continued success of this
program and encourage its widespread participation." |

"The Ramadan Fast-a-Thon is truly an inspiring, powerful idea. In these
days of ever increasing discord and tension between adherents of various
faiths, it is refreshing to see people not only coming together despite
their various beliefs, but also sharing in a spiritually uplifting
practice. We pray that the spirit which has motivated this initiative, and
the spirit of the fast prove to be positive forces for the betterment of
the lives of all of the participants, and that it encourages future
cooperation in other spheres." - Imam Zaid Shakir

"Muslims, while one fifth of humanity, are largely misunderstood. There
are many reasons for that but one unfortunate reason is the community's
collective failure to genuinely reach out to others and break down
natural and artificial barriers. One novel and effective way to do that
is to present to non-Muslims the miracle of Ramadan. Each year over a
billion people give up eating, drinking and other pleasures for the
daylight period. The discipline and sincerity of that endeavor is not
lost on people who try to do the same even for a day. While it is not a
devotional act in sacred law if a non-Muslim "fasts" as Islam is a
pre-requisite for it to be, it is nonetheless a display of goodwill and
solidarity and that should be encouraged. Some may even be tempted to
continue and start praying too. I pray for the success of your program
and look forward to the testimonials." - Sheikh Hamza Yusuf

"This is one of the best new things I have heard of to please Allah and do
something real for Islam in North America at the grassroots level. It
combines fasting, a worship already tremendous in the eyes of Allah for
the sincerity in it, with a class of deed that is even greater than acts
confined to oneself: helping others. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give
him peace) has said, "Charity given but falls in the hand of the
All-merciful." May Allah Most High give us the success and vision to seize
this prime opportunity while it is still before us." - Sheikh Nuh Ha Mim
